Author Guidelines

Authors are invited to make a submission to this journal. All submissions will be assessed by an editor to determine whether they meet the aims and scope of this journal. Those considered to be a good fit will be sent for peer review before determining whether they will be accepted or rejected.

Before making a submission, authors are responsible for obtaining permission to publish any material included with the submission, such as photos, documents and datasets. All authors identified on the submission must consent to be identified as an author. Where appropriate, research should be approved by an appropriate ethics committee in accordance with the legal requirements of the study's country.

Author Guidelines

The International Journal of Bengali Literature (IJBL) welcomes original, high-quality manuscripts that contribute to the advancement of Bengali language, literature, culture, and interdisciplinary humanities. Authors are encouraged to carefully follow these guidelines before submitting their manuscripts.

Types of Manuscripts

IJBL accepts the following categories of submissions:

  • Original Research Articles

  • Review Articles

  • Critical Essays

  • Book Reviews

  • Translation Studies with Scholarly Commentary

  • Short Communications

  • Case Studies in Literary and Cultural Research

Submission Requirements

Authors should ensure that their manuscripts:

  • Are original and have not been published previously.

  • Are not under consideration by another journal or publisher.

  • Present accurate, ethical, and properly documented research.

  • Are written in clear and grammatically correct English or Bengali.

  • Follow the formatting requirements specified by the journal.

Initial Editorial Screening

All submitted manuscripts undergo an initial editorial assessment. The Editor may desk reject a submission if it does not meet the journal's minimum standards of quality, originality, relevance, or presentation.

Before submitting your manuscript, please ensure that:

  • The research problem or literary argument is clearly defined.

  • The manuscript is logically organized and well written.

  • The study design or research methodology, where applicable, is appropriate and clearly explained.

  • The title is concise, informative, and accurately reflects the content of the manuscript.

  • The abstract clearly summarizes the objectives, methodology, key findings, and conclusions and can be understood independently of the full article.

  • References are complete, accurate, and consistently formatted.

  • The manuscript complies with the journal's ethical and formatting requirements.

Well-prepared manuscripts are more likely to proceed smoothly through the peer-review process.

Manuscript Structure

A research article should generally include:

  1. Title

  2. Author(s) Name(s) and Affiliation(s)

  3. Abstract (150–250 words)

  4. Keywords (4–8)

  5. Introduction

  6. Literature Review (where appropriate)

  7. Research Methodology

  8. Analysis and Discussion

  9. Conclusion

  10. Acknowledgements (optional)

  11. Funding Information (if applicable)

  12. Conflict of Interest Statement

  13. References

The structure may vary depending on the nature of the submission.

Formatting Guidelines

  • Submit manuscripts in Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx).

  • Use A4 page size with 1-inch margins.

  • Font: Times New Roman, 12-point.

  • Line spacing: 1.5.

  • Pages should be numbered consecutively.

  • Tables, figures, and illustrations should be numbered and accompanied by descriptive captions.

  • Bengali text should be submitted using standard Unicode fonts.

Abstract and Keywords

Each manuscript must include:

  • An informative abstract of 150–250 words.

  • Four to eight keywords representing the main themes of the manuscript.

Citation and References

Authors should consistently follow the citation style prescribed by the journal. Every citation in the text must appear in the reference list, and every reference listed must be cited in the manuscript.

Authors are responsible for the accuracy and completeness of all references.

Ethical Responsibilities

Authors must ensure that:

  • The submitted work is entirely original.

  • Proper acknowledgment is given to the work of others.

  • Plagiarism, duplicate publication, and data fabrication are strictly avoided.

  • All authors have made significant scholarly contributions to the manuscript.

  • Any potential conflicts of interest are disclosed.

Peer Review

All manuscripts that successfully pass the initial editorial screening are submitted for peer review by experts in the relevant field. Editorial decisions are based on reviewers' comments, the manuscript's originality, scholarly merit, and relevance to the aims and scope of the journal.

The Editor reserves the right to accept, reject, or request revisions before making a final publication decision.

Copyright and Licensing

Authors retain responsibility for the content of their published work. Upon acceptance, authors may be required to complete the journal's copyright or licensing agreement in accordance with the journal's publication policy.

  • □ All required declarations (funding, conflicts of interest, acknowledgements, if applicable) have been included.

  • □ The manuscript complies with the journal's formatting requirements.

Failure to comply with these guidelines may result in delays during the review process or rejection before peer review.

Submission Preparation Checklist

All submissions must meet the following requirements.

  • This submission meets the requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.
  • This submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration.
  • All references have been checked for accuracy and completeness.
  • All tables and figures have been numbered and labeled.
  • Permission has been obtained to publish all photos, datasets and other material provided with this submission.
